Upcoming Competition Module

For our next module us third years will be entering a competition from either the D&AD or YCN. On that note, I just came across this absolutely genius video that someone submitted last year in response to a D&AD brief by HP. Looks like we've got some tough competition!

EDIT:
Thought I'd add some more info about this. It was made by Matt Robinson and Tom Wrigglesworth and they won the 'Best New Blood' and Student Yellow Pencil D&AD awards in July 2009. On a side note, the pictures on Tom's site remind me of Sam's Las Vegas photos.

A Super Cool Pet Adoption Advert

Here's an advert for an American pet adoption company I found on my travels around youtube. I thought I'd share it as I found it pretty funny and it's a really good example of advertising a product or service by using an idea completely abstract from what it actually does.

Billboard Creativity

I couldn't find the designers of these wonderful billboards but I had to post it as I love how innovative they are.

Kasabian Football Hero - Check It Out!

I got this link sent to me by my friend, and it is absolutely awesome! It might not have too much with design BUT the creativity behind it and the thought that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE (Nike anyone?)

Amazed?!

Remember kids, don't play with your food!

So yeah... This is a bunch of fruit and other things which an artist managed to manipulate and make pretty interesting stuff!
The ability to make these foods intriguing, humorous and beautiful seems like quite a challenge.
I mean... what would you make with the food in your kitchen?

Well... i certainly like them =] !
Anyone up for the challenge after these projects?
I can't recall where i got these images as i've had them quite a while, but i have more of the artist's work, so if anyone wants more i can post more or just email some =]
(also if you know who the artist is do let me know and i'll reference them)

Pringles Xtreme on the M3

I drove to and from Bournemouth and stopped at Winchester motorway station for a little break and came across some Pringles Xtreme. The point of sale was quite shocking, in my opinion - what about you?

It is a simple 4 sectioned with the different flavours in each section. If I wasn't doing a project on Pringles Xtreme then I most likely wouldn't have picked up on it!

Thoughts?

All Work and No Play

Quite relevant to us third years, awesome design!

My submission contains 2 core thoughts: that work is the main cause of stress in our daily lives, and that stress, in turn, causes hair loss - particularly in men. With this in mind I wanted to typographically communicate the idea and so took the phrase \'All work and no play\' (leaving the ending open for interpretation) and set about scanning in clumps of hair from my local hair-dresser\'s floor. These were then fashioned into letters based around Futura Bold.

did he buy his outfit in TOPSHOP?

Oh Canada

This is an image i found from The Alberta Tourist Board.

Personally i just found it pretty interesting way to advertise using the space around you.

Big Mac Billboard

Just saw this billboard on the way home and found it pretty funny, being the connoisseur of terrible puns that I am.

...and in case you're wondering - gherkout.

driving creativity...

Hey DBM bodies,

I know we are all trying to drive our creative right now (like a monkey turning the cogs), so basically I wanted to a post encouragement. Let's encourage our right side of our brain and step away from the marketing for now and have a kitkat and go for a walk.

I took a walk to the National History Museum, I recommend it if you haven't been. As we are all trying to communicate our ideas and interact with our consumers, I think we should grab inspirations from places like this museum. Great striking visuals that have to speak the majority.

a few photographs I took on my visit...

Is this the most beautiful object ever?

According to Pulchra, the first beauty contest for objects, it is. The Gyrofocus fireplace by Focus won the 2009 Pulchra design competition, beating creations from Sony Ericsson, Phillips, and Philippe Starck, and was named the most beautiful object.

Proof that chewing your pencil is a good thing.

Horacio Salinas is a photographer based in New York who has made a great series of photos taking various objects and turning them in to faces and bodies. Clever stuff.

See the link at the end of the post for more.
